INTRODUCTION

Brief History of the College

Mohamet Lawan College of Agriculture was established in 1977 by the Borno State Government Edict No. 10/1986/87 with the primary objective of producing middle level extension staff in Agriculture. Forestry and Veterinary for the needed agriculture development in the state particular and the country in general.

Courses in Agriculture, Animal Health and Husbandry as well ad Forestry started in July, 1977 with an initial intake of 100 students i.e 50 in Agriculture, 30 in Animal Health and Husbandry and 20 in Forestry. Two more Departments of Agricultural Mechanization (now defunct) and Home Economics were introduced a few years later. The annual intake of students remained at about 100 until 1980 when the intake of students rose to 300. Furthermore, the intake continued to rise tremendously with the introduction of HND and Certificate Courses in the 2002/2003 session. Admission is opened to candidates from other states in the country, all Federal and State agricultural agencies and Local Government Areas, Private individual and foreign candidates.

The college at the moment offers two-year courses leading to the National Diploma in Agric Technology, Animal Health and Production, Forestry Technology and Home and Rural Economics. It also offers 4 HND courses in Animal Health, Animal Production Technology, Pest Management Technology and Agricultural Extension and Management. A part from the introduction of 9 months Certificate courses in Poultry Production, Nursery and Landscape Management, Home and Rural Economics, Environmental Management, Agricultural Mechanization, Horticulture, Tailoring and Design, Fisheries as well as surgery and Anesthesiology, Pre-HND has been introduced too.

All these courses mentioned above (other than certificate courses) have been accredited by the National Board on Technical Education (NBTE).

Our Mission

The mission of the College is to provide courses of study, training and research in Agriculture, forestry, Animal Health and Production, Home and Rural Economics, Pest Management Technology, and Extension and Farm Management at Certificate, National Diploma and Higher National Diploma Levels with the ultimate purpose of providing services to Community

And also to promote through research and teaching its practical application to the needs of the Community
